BIOGRAPHY: MICHAEL TYACK

Musical Director / Pianist

Michael Tyack traces his outstanding career as a professional musician and musical director over almost four decades.

In that time, he has worked on a stellar ensemble of Australia’s most acclaimed stage shows and performance companies, including numerous productions for the Sydney Theatre Company, NIDA and the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), as well as major musicals such as Chicago, Chess, The Wizard of Oz, Jerry’s Girls, Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and The Boy from Oz.

Michael has also become a favourite with headline artists, directing cabaret shows, live concerts and studio albums for the likes of David Campbell, Toni Lamond, Caroline O’Connor, Tim Draxl, Judi Connelli, Geraldine Turner, Chelsea Plumley and Rhonda Burchmore.

For the past two years, he has travelled Australia from coast to coast as Musical Director of the sell-out Australian production of Mary Poppins for which he won the 2011 Helpmann Award for Best Musical Direction.

In July 2012, Michael will head up to the tiny village of Tyalgum in the Tweed Valley to accompany Tim Draxl on-stage in his exclusive one-man cabaret show, Tim Draxl: Live in Tyalgum.
