Our new Young Virtuosi concert in the Flutterbies Piano Room will be on Saturday 22nd June and we would like to introduce you to 2 very exciting young performers.
17 year old Nina Fan (AMusA) Winner of the Young Virtuoso of the Year – 2018 for Australia National MBS Classic FM. Nina is a 1st year piano student at the QLD Conservatorium of music and was one of the youngest entrants accepted to compete in the Lev Vlassenko Piano competition. With a slew of other amazing acheivements, Nina was invited to perform at the prestigious Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall in January 2019.
Nina will perform @flutterbiescafe alongside her Violinist brother Ingram Fan (AMusA). Ingram is 1st Violinist with QLD Youth Symphony and was a finalist in the Brisbane International Youth Music Festival Competition. At the Flutterbies concert Nina and Ingram will perform works by Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Prokofiev, Clementi, Chopin & more.

Oscar is one of Australia’s most exciting young pianists, a recent graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music (Bachelor of Music, Advanced Performance) graduating with Distinction, Oscar has played as a soloist, chamber musician and concerto soloist in Japan, China, Russia, Malta and throughout Australia with leading National Orchestras.
Oscar was First Prize Winner at the 2017 Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition, First Prize winner at the 2017 Australian Concerto and Vocal Competition and has won major International Piano Competitions around the world. His extraordinary talent has been acknowledged by the Australian Music Examination Board with their highest honor – The Fellowship in Music. Oscar was the final recipient of this prestigious award.
The Northern Rivers’ Premiere Annual Dance event burnt up the floor in 2018. Australia’s very best Ballroom, Latin and New Vogue dance couples performed an exciting and glittering display of their incredible talent live at Tyalgum Hall. We were also proud to welcome back 5 times Australian Champion and former ‘Dancing With The Stars’ judge Mark Wilson as host for the evening. The line-up also included Ballroom dancers Andrew Nolo and Sarlotte Jakse, (Victorian State Champions 2018, Crown International Champions 2018 & Australian Dancesport Championship 2nd place 2017) as well as Australian Championship finalists Rhett & Emma Salmon performing the New Vougue bracket. We were also thrilled to showcase an exciting Latin American section performed by Jarryd Byrne (‘Strictly Ballroom: The Musical’ and ‘Dancing With The Stars’) as well as Blackpool Rising Star Champion and five times Australian Latin Champion Alarna Donovan and guest spot by Operatic Sorprano Petah Chapman.

A special event is coming to Flutterbies Cafe in Tyalgum: The Lyrebird Trio is comprised of Australian musicians Glenn Christensen (violin), Simon Cobcroft (cello) and Angela Turner (piano), all distinguished graduates of the Queensland Conservatorium. The Trio was formed in 2013 and they regularly perform right across Australia with featured concerts at Melbourne Recital Hall, Sydney Opera House among others, they have had recordings and broadcasts on ABC Classic FM, and MBS networks. Outside of the trio, Glenn Christensen is a member of the Australian Chamber Orchestra; Simon Cobcroft is Principal Cello with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, and Angela Turner is a lecturer at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University. For the Flutterbies concert they will be performing the spirited Haydn Gypsy trio, as well as works by Kopetz and Mendelssohn as well as an original work called ‘Of The Sea, The Moon and of You’.
This incredible new cabaret artist will present a cabaret show at Flutterbies Cottage Cafe on Saturday 5th August, before taking the show to Sydney’s iconic El Rocco Room at Kings Cross the following week.
Featuring the songs of Cole Porter, Michael Buble, Bobby Darrin and Robbie Williams as well as some of the latest hits from Broadway, David will be accompanied on piano by one of Australia’s finest musical directors, Andrew Worboys. Tapas and a Champagne cocktail at Flutterbies Cafe from 6:00pm. Show starts at 7:30pm.
Our second Flutterbies concert for 2017 will feature one of Australia’s young rising Opera stars, Soprano Xenia Puskarz Thomas. Award winning classical artist Xenia has performed as a soloist with the Queensland Youth Orchestras and with the Camerata of St. Johns. Xenia is a student of Opera and Classical Voice at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, making real waves in the classical music scene, Xenia was named by the Courier Mail as one of Queensland’s 50 Best and Brightest. In the Tyalgum concert, she will be performing with her sister, Queensland Youth Symphony Cellist Eugenie Puskarz Thomas and QLD Conservatorium Pianist Elli Welsh. Click here to read more about Xenia
Together these three immensly talented young ladies will perform a selection of Mozart, Purcell and Debussy and much more.
On Saturday 8th April and Sunday 9th April enjoy an afternoon of exquisite classical and contemporary music with QLD Music Conservatorium’s classical pianist Crystal smith will perform a selection of great classics. Crystal will also accompany Australian soprano Michelle Ryan with a selection of arias, light opera, classical musical theatre and Celtic music. Michelle comes to us from a recent season at the Berlin Opera Academy, and this year will join London’s Royal Academy of Music. Presented in Flutterbies Cottage Cafe’s Little Shop Next Door, an exquisite afternoon tea will be available during the interval. Champagne and Gin bar will be open from 1:30pm.

An incredible afternoon of amazing Classical piano from Crystal Smith with pieces from Mozart’s Piano Sonato in C Minor, Chopin’s Nocturne in C Sharp Minor among other beautiful pieces by Cyrtsal and then a selection of songs by Jenna everything from ‘O Mio Babbino Caro’, to ‘The Music Of The Night’, to ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ and ‘On My Own’ and her brilliant performance of ‘Almost Real’ from The Bridges of Madison County’. These young ladies at 18 and 19 years of age certainly have a brilliant career ahead of them. Also thank you to young Sara making her debut joining Jenna for the infamous ‘Flower Duet’.
