Dance Spectacular

Historic Tyalgum Village Hall in the Tweed Valley will host two of Australia’s championship dancing pairs in a glittering Dance Spectacular on Saturday, March 19.

The ten-dance ballroom and latin floorshow will feature Australian Dancesport semi-finalists, Rhett Salmon and Kristie Simmonds, along with Queensland Open Latin Champions Hannah O’Donovan and Chris Cannock.

For Rhett Salmon, the Tyalgum event has a strong family connection: His father, Ray, taught Latin and ballroom dancing at the Tyalgum Hall for many years, preparing locals for the annual New Year’s Eve Dance which was always a huge event in the village.

Dance Spectacular organiser Solar Chapel also has a strong connection to the glamorous world of dancesport. His parents, Doug and Sue Potter were former World Championship semi-finalists and their dance studio in the Sydney suburb of Marounbra hosted the auditions and rehearsals for Australian hit movie Strictly Ballroom. Their studio has also been the training ground for many of the talented dancers made famous by popular TV programs such as Dancing with the Stars.
