IN THE PRESS
BELL Shakespeare theatre company will bring the bard to the bush with a special adaptation of Romeo and Juliet at Tyalgum Village Hall.
On April 26, Such Sweet Sorrow, a one-hour production. will showcase the highs and lows of one of the world’s greatest love stories.
Al the roles will be played by four leading actors using contemporary stylized costuming, clever props and background banners to set the scenes.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be able to bring a theatre company of this calibre to the Tweed Valley,” Hearts Aflame Productions Solar Chapel said.
“Tyalgum Hall will provide the perfect setting for an intimate theatre experience and it will be a rare privilege for Tweed audiences to enjoy a world-class production from a company that is more used to performing at the Sydney Opera House.”
The Bell Shakespeare company is the latest in a series of performers that Hearts Aflame Productions has lured to Tyalgum in recent years: 2011 saw the world premiere of a new Peter Allen musical staged in the acoustically-perfect village hall and, in 2012, award-winning cabaret star, Tim Draxl, transformed the 100+ year old venue into an intimate supper club.
“With each show, we get people coming from further afield – initially from the Northern Rivers and now, more and more, from the Gold Coast and Brisbane,” Mr Chapel said,
“A lot of them have never been to Tyalgum before and they now often return for day trips.
“While our productions are certainly putting Tyalgum on the map as a unique location for top class entertainment, they are also putting us on the map as a tourist destination, bringing significant economic benefits to the town and the rest of the Valley.”
Hearts Aflame Productions will stage two performances of Bell Shakespeare’s Such Sweet Sorrow on April 26: A matinee at 11am which will undoubtedly attract students currently studying Romeo and Juliet as their school text; and an evening performance at 7pm.
Tickets are priced at $35 for adults and $15 for students, and Flutterbies Cottage Café will be open for pre-show dinners from 5.30pm.
